In our second EQUITYx event of the 2024-2025 year, Benefits and Barriers: Leaning In and Out of Educational Equity, Dr. Kenyona Walker will lead a discussion on why educational institutions often lean out of equity efforts, addressing the barriers that hinder the effectiveness of this work. She'll also highlight the benefits of leaning into equity, outlining the necessary structures for sustainable and impactful equity initiatives.

EQUITYx solves for this problem by bringing you the leading scholars in leadership for educational equity, antiracism and social justice in a distilled and practitioner-focused format. Dr. Kenyona Walker, PhD
Dr. Kenyona Walker is an experienced equity leader who has spearheaded equity efforts at both a large land-grant university and a major urban district. Driven by her passion for education, engagement, and equity, she focuses on building others' capacity to foster diversity and inclusion in educational settings. A certified DEI professional, Dr. Walker has taught graduate-level equity courses and published research on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Her work centers on identifying inequities, understanding how they exist, and creating actionable plans to address them.
As a dedicated evaluator and researcher, Dr. Walker emphasizes educational equity and access, particularly focusing on the experiences of Black women and girls. Her career highlights support for historically marginalized populations, including students learning English, those in kinship care, special education recipients, and early learners.Dr. Walker serves on the board of the Institute of Education Sciences' Regional Educational Laboratory for the Midwest. She is committed to bridging research and practice to envision and create genuine equity in education.
