In our second EQUITYx event of the 2024-2025 year, Benefits and Barriers: Leaning In and Out of Educational Equity, Dr. Kenyona Walker will lead a discussion on why educational institutions often lean out of equity efforts, addressing the barriers that hinder the effectiveness of this work.  She'll also highlight the benefits of leaning into equity, outlining the necessary structures for sustainable and impactful equity initiatives.

Dr. Walker, who has extensive experience in leading equity efforts at a large land-grant university and a large urban district, will share insights from her research on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Her work focuses on identifying inequities, understanding their root causes, and developing action plans to address them. With a career centered on historically marginalized populations, particularly Black women and girls, Dr. Walker has also published research on the educational experiences of English learners, students in kinship care, those receiving special education services, and early learners.

This event will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the complexities of educational equity, offering opportunities to ask questions and engage in meaningful discussions about the structures needed to make equity efforts effective in their own contexts.
